Industrial Piping Estimator
Job Description:
Purpose
The Industrial Piping Estimator is responsible for – reviewing the project documents; participating in pre-bid meetings and site visits; performing quantity take-offs; soliciting vendor and subcontractor pricing and reviewing quotations for conformance to the bid documents; recommending labor factor adjustments; and participating in post-bid de-scope meetings, and turnover meetings.
Job Responsibilities:
• Thoroughly review and understand the design and bid documents, including but not limited to the project drawings, specifications, schedule, and specific scopes of work
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits, as required
• Perform quantity take-offs of process piping systems from P&IDs and other drawings, with an understanding of the piping specifications
• Perform estimates during the various stages of the development of a design – i.e., from Conceptual through Issue for Construction
• Prepare and submit pre-bid RFIs
• Solicit vendor quotations based on the estimated bills of material and subcontractor quotations, and review for conformance with the design / bid documents
• Recommend estimated labor factor adjustments
• Participate in post-bid de-scope meetings
• Participate in the turnover of sold projects to the project management teams
• Provide estimating support for change orders on sold projects
• Additional duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
• Proficient computer and software (e.g., Trimble Estimation, Trimble Autobid, MS Excel, Bluebeam, etc.) skills, including on-screen take-off
• Knowledge of MCAA WebLEM is preferred
• Working knowledge of ASME Standards – e.g., B31.1, B31.3, B31.9, BPE, etc.
• High level of attention to detail
• Proficient in reading and understanding P&IDs
• Proficient in reading and understanding piping Specifications
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to be an effective member of a team, and be responsive to both internal and external customer requests
Education/Experience
• Minimum 3-years relevant industrial/process piping cost estimating or project management experience in the Life Sciences, Chemical, Food & Beverage, Refinery, and/or Semiconductor market segments
• Bachelors or Associates degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or relevant industry experience
Essential Physical Abilities
• Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to conduct field surveys at construction sites
Working Environment
• Normal Office Environment and periodically construction job sites
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Frequently communicates with employees and vendors
